Foresters' very own Wonderwoman...

Part and parcel of meeting weekly with 25 different people is that there a lot of stories.

Cue Marcie Williams, Foresters Brass Co-Principal Euphonium.

Marcie Williams - Wonderwoman

Marcie began playing aged 8 in her hometown of Gosport, near Portsmouth. Moving to Nottingham University to study Medicine in September 2015, Marcie joined Foresters Brass just a month later.

Whilst undergoing her first year in Nottingham, Marcie responded to a Charity drive for Action Against Hunger (AAH) in the form of a trek to Machu Picchu, Peru, one of the wonders of the World. As well as continuing her demanding course in Medicine, Marcie raised well over £100 per month to achieve her goal of £2400.

Marcie landed with her group in Cusco, Peru, on the 1st September and began their two days of acclimatising before beginning their ascent. A total of 31 took up the challenge of the Salkantay Trek, which involved following the railway line for part of the journey, jumping out the way of oncoming trains!

Day 2 of Marcie's trek saw her reach the incredible Humantay Glacier Lake.;

"The scenery was beautiful. It was like something out of a film. We never really got used to where we were!"

Humantay Glacier Lake, not the worst spot for a picnic...

Enduring 5 grueling 10 hour days of trekking up to heights of 15,200ft, Marcie reached Machu Picchu on the 8th of September in time for Sunrise, nearly 8,000ft above sea level.

Marcie said of her journey and AAH;

"The Salkantay Trek was definitely the hardest thing I've ever done, but I'm so pleased I managed it and raised all the money I needed to for Action Against Hunger. I'm looking forward to taking part in more fundraising activities in the future.

Marcie (far right) in action

Action Against Hunger (AAH) is a great charity which aims to end malnutrition across the globe. They work with children and families around the World to provide sustainable solutions and aid in crises. I'm hoping that one day I can visit one of their centres to help out first hand."

At Foresters Brass we're hugely proud to have people like Marcie in the band and are looking to support in any way we can. If you can support Marcie, please follow the link below to her donation page.

A very selfless act by a very selfless person.

Bravo, Marcie!
